Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) Basketball Club, commonly known as APR, is a leading Rwandan basketball team based in Kigali. Owned and supported by the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), the club competes in the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) and is poised to make its mark in the 2025 season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Founded during the RPF’s liberation struggle in 1993, the club was created to engage and occupy soldiers during a ceasefire amid the Arusha peace talks. Alongside basketball, the RPF also launched volleyball and football teams, all of which remain active and successful today.
APR holds an unmatched domestic record, having clinched 15 national league championships. The team secured its titles in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2023, and 2024.
On the continental stage, APR has also proven its strength, representing Rwanda three times at the FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup. The team finished sixth in 2007, eighth in 2008, and earned a bronze medal in 2009.
